Neck lift surgery rejuvenates the bottom third of the face by tightening the face's underlying structures that slacken with age, forming jowls and a fleshy neck. Neck lift also trims excess skin, smoothing it down to eliminate facial creases and giving a visual lift to the bottom third of the face. A neck lift is what often comes to mind when people think of a facelift. Neck lift eliminates jowls, targets lax skin on the neck and jaw line, addresses deep wrinkles, and raises the corners of the mouth. The “full facelift,” in contrast, is actually a combination of a neck lift, mid facelift, and brow lift (forehead lift). The full facelift rejuvenates the face from forehead to neck, while the lower facelift rejuvenates the lower third of the face — an area quick to show signs of aging.
For these reasons, candidates for neck lift surgery are patients in relatively good health who have reasonably elastic skin and are showing aging in the bottom third of their face as well as the neck. Those with lax skin around the jaw line and/or drooping corners of the mouth as well as a neck with excess skin, thick bands, or excess fat, are ideal candidates for lower facelift surgery.
Lower facelift surgery can be performed through a small incision that begins in front of the ear and extends down and behind the ear; or, it can be performed using an endoscopic face lift technique, in which small cameras (endoscopes) are inserted through a few short incisions. If a lower face lift is performed at the same time as lower facelift, a small incision will be made under the chin.
Working through the small or hidden incisions, the surgeon carefully separates the skin from the tissue below. Excess fat is removed, facial muscles are tightened and restored to youthful positions, and skin is smoothed before the excess is trimmed away. The surgeon completes the neck lift by closing the incisions with sutures.
A neck lift is done in the hospital. Surgery takes 1,5-2 hours for each region, so total face lift takes 5-6 hours. You may be allowed to return home within 1-2 days after surgery. A compressive bandage is applied 5-7 days following surgery. Some complaints such as pain, tightness, swelling, bruising and numbness are the natural results of the procedure. Pain usually does not cause discomfort and can easily be controlled by medication. Most of the swelling subsides within 7-10 days, and rest of the swelling which is imperceptible resolves gradually within 6 months and the face gains actual feature. During the first weeks after surgery, tightness and numbness reduce and finally vanish as swelling subsides. Permanent numbness is not common. Lasting of bruising depends on the person's sensitivity and varies considerably from person to person. Sometimes, disappearing the bruising may delay until 15th day. Just after surgery, your face would be unrecognizable, but your actual face begins to appear within 7-10 days as the swelling and bruising reduce.
While neck lifting cannot stop the aging process, it can often make a person appear to be a decade younger than their actual age. After recovery, you will gain much more rested and youthful appearance. halslifting
